About this piece

The Dance of Threads Earrings are a pair of drop earrings in black frivolité (tatting) lace with turquoise seed beads. The motif is a large openwork oval in which the rings never repeat: they cross and ride over one another like a line drawn in a single stroke, which is why neither earring is an exact mirror of the other. At the crossings of the thread sit tiny iridescent turquoise seed beads, the only colour in the piece. They have a big silhouette but they're openwork, so they weigh far less than they look.

Details

Tatting knotted by hand with a shuttle, ring by ring, in matt black thread with an even surface. The turquoise seed beads are strung on the thread and trapped inside the knots, not glued: that's why they never work loose. The finding is a silver leverback hook, holding the oval from a ring woven into the top edge. The lace looks delicate and is tougher than it seems. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 5.5 cm long by 3 cm wide; weight 3 g the pair.

Care

Better not to get them wet. Put them on last, after perfume and make-up, and store them horizontally inside the pouch so the oval doesn't lose its shape.

Not identical: each piece is woven once, and that exact combination of thread, knot and stone is never repeated. We can weave one inspired by it, in your colours and with the stone you choose, as a custom order.
