About this piece

The Turquoise Lace Earrings are a pair of medium earrings in black frivolité (tatting) lace with a turquoise faceted crystal at the centre. The motif is a four-pointed diamond, with picot rings opening in a cross and a frame of turquoise seed beads around the central stone, like a woven setting. The points of the diamond finish in seed beads too, so the turquoise appears at the edge and returns to the middle. The contrast between the matt black and that Caribbean blue is what makes the piece: they read from a distance even though they aren't large.

Details

ANKARS technique, developed on the base of classic tatting and knotted by hand with a shuttle, with dense knots that leave the diamond firm and even. The thread is black. The centre is an oval turquoise-coloured faceted crystal, held by the weave itself; around it and at the points sit turquoise seed beads woven into the knots, not glued. The hooks are silver leverback hooks. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 5 cm long by 4.5 cm wide; weight 5 g the pair.

Care

Keep water well away. They're best left in their pouch, lying flat, and put on after your perfume.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry: water, perfume, cream and chlorine loosen the thread and dull the colour. Clean it only with a dry, soft cloth, and store it flat in its pouch, apart from other pieces and away from humidity.

Can I order an identical one?

Not identical: each piece is woven once, and that exact combination of thread, knot and stone is never repeated. We can weave one inspired by it, in your colours and with the stone you choose, as a custom order.
