The Iceberg Fragments Earrings are a pair of drop earrings in which silver frivolité (tatting) lace wraps around a raw, uncut pale blue crystal. The stones are translucent with irregular faces, like a piece of ice just broken off, and each one has its own outline: the lace was built around it, with arcs crossing the front and holding it from behind. At the top, a woven ring and a pale blue faceted bead make the link to the finding. These are the rawest and the most authored pair of the group: the two earrings are not alike, and that's the whole point.
Details
Tatting knotted by hand with a shuttle in silver metallic thread, worked directly onto the stone: there's no glue and no metal setting, the lace itself does the holding. The raw crystal is translucent pale blue, mineral in character and unpolished, and above it sits a pale blue faceted bead woven into the knots. The hooks are silver leverback hooks. Because these are raw natural stones, the size and the internal drawing change from one earring to the other. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 6 cm long by 2 cm wide; weight 13 g the pair.
Care
Don't get them wet and don't knock them against hard surfaces. Store them in their pouch, lying flat with nothing on top, away from perfume and cream.
