Atlantic Drop Earrings

The Atlantic Drop Earrings are a pair of earrings in black frivolité (tatting) lace with a spherical blue bead at the centre of each. The motif is a rosette of overlapping rings closing into a rounded drop, and between the knots turquoise seed beads peer out and light up the moment they catch the sun. The central bead has pale veining over a deep blue, like water breaking against stone. The black makes them easy: they go with an evening dress and with a white T-shirt alike.

Details

Worked in tatting with the ANKARS technique, developed on the base of classic tatting: the knots sit tighter and the motif holds its shape without an internal frame. The thread is black and the central bead is veined blue, mineral in character, held by the weave itself. The turquoise seed beads are woven into the knots, not glued. They close with a silver leverback hook. This is lace: delicate to look at, tougher than it seems and light on the ear. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 5.5 cm long by 3 cm wide; weight 5 g the pair.

Care

Keep them out of water and take them off before the pool or the shower. Perfume and cream always go on first. Store them in their pouch lying flat, so the lace keeps its shape.
