Blue Lagoon Earrings

The Blue Lagoon Earrings are a pair of earrings in silver frivolité (tatting) lace built as an open crown, with six frosted pale blue faceted crystals spaced around the ring. Between one crystal and the next sit tiny clear beads that act as hinges and let the light through the empty centre. The blue is milky, closer to lagoon water than to sky. This is a piece with real volume: the ring isn't flat, it has relief and you notice it when you turn your head.

Details

Worked in tatting with the ANKARS technique, developed on the base of classic tatting, which is what lets the ring hold its curve with no wire inside. The thread is silver metallic thread; the pale blue faceted crystals and the clear beads are woven into the knots, not glued. Findings: silver leverback hook, which closes and won't come open on its own. For all the size of the beads, they're still light. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 5 cm long by 3 cm wide; weight 9 g the pair.

Care

No water at all, not even heavy rain. Put them on last, after perfume and cream. Store them in the pouch, lying flat, so the crown doesn't lose its shape.
