Origami Earrings

The Origami Earrings are a pair of long earrings in black frivolité (tatting) shaped like a folded leaf. Unlike openwork lace, here the weave is dense and solid: a vein runs down the middle of the leaf and the two halves fold inwards, like a piece of paper somebody creased and never opened again. There are no beads at all — the whole effect is texture and shadow. They're big, black and thoroughly graphic: the piece for the day you don't feel like thinking about the rest of the outfit.

Details

Worked in tatting with the ANKARS technique, developed on the base of classic tatting: the knots sit so tight that the leaf keeps its fold on its own, with no frame inside at all. The thread is matt black, with no beads and no stones. Findings: silver French hook with a silicone stopper. They look heavy for their size, but the thread is so light that they don't pull on the lobe. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly the same. They measure 8 cm long by 4.5 cm wide; weight 9 g the pair.

Care

Don't get them wet: the fold is held by the weave and damp relaxes it. Put them on after perfume and cream. Store them in their pouch without squashing them, so the leaf keeps its volume.
