About this piece

The Encaje de Granate Necklace — garnet lace — is a gold frivolité (tatting) lace bib necklace set with garnet-coloured faceted crystals. A chain of small beaded rings runs around the neck, and at the front it opens into a wide cascade of arches and four rosettes, finished with scallops at either side. The lace is sewn with crystal from end to end, a very long job that shows the instant light touches it. This is our gala piece.

Details

The whole necklace is hand-worked with a shuttle in tatting, in gold metallic thread. The beads are cube-shaped faceted crystal in a deep wine garnet colour, some with an iridescent flash, knotted into every section of the lace and never glued. The chain sits at the base of the neck and the bib falls open across the neckline; at the back it fastens with a golden olive-shaped bead that passes through a woven loop of the same thread, button-and-buttonhole style. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly alike. It measures 47.5 cm long by 7 cm wide; weight 14 g.

Care

Keep it well away from water and put it on last, once your perfume has dried. To store it, lay it flat in its case so the bib does not crease.

How do I care for it?

Keep it dry: water, perfume, cream and chlorine loosen the thread and dull the colour. Clean it only with a dry, soft cloth, and store it flat in its pouch, apart from other pieces and away from humidity.

Can I order an identical one?

Not identical: each piece is woven once, and that exact combination of thread, knot and stone is never repeated. We can weave one inspired by it, in your colours and with the stone you choose, as a custom order.
