Mariposa de Lavanda Necklace

The Mariposa de Lavanda Necklace — lavender butterfly — is a closed choker in lilac frivolité (tatting) lace, made of butterfly motifs repeating one after another along a barely rippling ribbon. The wings are woven bows, and scattered over them are tiny faceted beads in opal blue that catch the light as you move. Because the thread is matte rather than metallic, the lace reads soft and textile: it sits right at the throat and works with simple necklines, by day or for a party outdoors.

Details

Tatting worked by hand in matte lilac thread, with no metallic strand, which gives it that fabric-lace look and its soft drape. The opal-blue faceted beads are knotted into the lace, not glued. It fastens with a small silver hook that slips into a loop woven into the lace itself. Every piece is one of a kind: hand-knotted, stitch by stitch, so no two come out exactly alike. It measures 37.5 cm long by 1.5 cm wide; weight 5 g.

Care

Keep it dry. As the thread is matte and textile, it is best stored flat in its case, away from perfume, cream and hairspray.
